Upfront is a user group focused on web design & frontend development topics, based in Berlin. We meet every month and everyone is welcome to participate, either by attending or holding a talk themselves.

Our next Meetup is on Tuesday, June 8th 2010, 7:30 pm at co.up and we have no less than six talks covering the origin of grid design, the need for CSS frameworks and the features of some of the most common layout frameworks that are around. Speakers are, among others, Malte, Claudine and myself.

Earlier today at FOWD, Ryan Carson unveiled Carsonified’s latest product, Think Vitamin Membership. The idea is to offer a monthly membership that gives webdesigners and frontend developers full access to video tutorials and conferences.

I have been looking for high quality stuff like that a lot recently, and both the Think Vitamin blog and podcast are already great resources, so this is definetely something I want to pay for.

Also, the promised “massive discounts” on conferences like Future of Web Design might be worth a monthly investment. Excited about the final conditions.

The upcoming documenta unveiled the first glimpse of their visual identity. It will be executed by Milan design agency Leftloft.

Our aim is to achieve a consistent and effective non-identity, which will not rely on the repetition of a single graphic element. In this sense, the 13th edition of documenta will not have a traditional logo. Instead, there will be a ‘rule’ for writing the word itself.

I like the idea of thinking of logos as syntax. Not a static graphic symbol, but a guideline for combining letters that can be applied and adjusted for different purposes and media. I wonder how this concept will turn out for their webdesign.
