A couple of weeks ago, Jens asked me to join him in creating give-away shirts for Music Hack Day Berlin (long and enthused post here). First we convinced the team to drop the shirt idea and instead produce tote bags – which are not only cheaper and less effort (one-size ftw), but also much more useful than the 100th tech event shirt that you will only ever wear for sleeping. Second, we grabbed our pens and settled in the sun for some sketching.

We wanted to do something pretty enough so that people would actually wear it, which means NOT having huge event and sponsor logos all over the place. Luckily the organizers Johan and Roel and the sponsor Spotify were in line with that. Still it needed to have a link to the event, so we started brainstorming around music, hacking, sound. We came up with spelling the name of the event in morse code, and experimented with translating a piece of morse code in musical notation. Since we failed in doing that accurately enough, we created a simpler graphic abstraction of the code. It then got screen printed on the bags and turned out really nicely. Look at happy Jens:

The Music Hack Day attendees seemed to like it, not a single bag was left after the weekend. You can download and print it yourself, though. Sanid even made the effort to re-translate the code into sound and share it on Soundcloud.
